Under a blazing triple-digit Texas sun, We buckled into a helmet, climbed into the passenger seat of a brand-new 2025 Corvette ZR1, and headed out onto Circuit of the Americas for an unforgettable lap. Behind the wheel was Chris Barber, the Corvette ZR1’s lead development engineer. Barber is also the driver who set a new production-car lap record at Road Atlanta in the ZR1, surpassing the previous benchmark by more than two seconds. That achievement was no accident — he’s one of four General Motors engineers who collectively earned ZR1 lap records at five different race tracks across the United States. These are the same people who engineered the car, and they know exactly how to push it to its limits.
