GM Energy is exploring ways to make home energy management more attainable for homeowners. One potential option under development is a leasing program for GM Energy home energy systems and PowerBank home batteries.
Rather than paying the full cost upfront, customers may have the option to make manageable monthly payments—similar to leasing a vehicle. This approach is designed to reduce the barrier to entry and fit more comfortably into household budgets. Additional details are expected closer to launch.
According to Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy, the goal is simple: unlock the unique benefits of EV ownership and provide customers with smarter ways to manage energy while maximizing the value of their investment.

Programs like “Free Charge Nights” in Texas through Reliant Energy, along with pilot initiatives such as PG&E’s vehicle-to-everything (V2X) program, are helping expand opportunities for incentives and grid integration. GM Energy has also reported positive internal testing for vehicle-to-grid capability and continues working with utilities to certify these systems.
